The two poems by Walt Whitman definitely stood out to me. In the poem I hear America Singing, Whitman focused on the idea of being an individual, and singing your own song. “Each singing what belongs to him or her and to none else, the day what belongs to the day at night the party of young fellows, robust, friendly, singing with open mouths their strong melodious songs.” Becoming independent allows you to be your own person, and create/sing your own song. It’s like taking that final step away from home, away from what your parents have taught you, and just doing what you feel is right. A part of doing this, and singing your own song, you have to be able to “celebrate yourself.” you have to be comfortable with who you are, in order to be able to stand out. that is something that people struggle with every day. being comfortable enough with yourself to say THIS IS WHO I AM is really difficult for people to be able to accomplish.

also, the poem O Captain! My Captain!..anybody else know what show that is from? because i definitely saw it and started laughing..ill give you a huge hint……

its full..its a house…come on now..hahahahhaha
